Modern Western Medicine cannot explain how acupuncture works. Acupuncture is based on ancient Chinese theories and principals of Qi (Chi or energy) and Xue (blood) which travels through distinct meridians or pathways that cover the body somewhat like nerve and vessel networks. According to ancient theory, acupuncture allows Qi to flow to areas where itis deficient and away from areas where there is excess. In this way, acupuncture regulates and restores the harmonious energetic balance of the body. In Chinese there is a saying, "If there is no pain, there is free flow.
